A fire breaks out and destroys a home: A tornado comes through and levels a neighborhood: A river bank overflows forcing nearby residents to evacuate their homes. The American Red Cross is there to help with emergency needs of food, clothing, and shelter.
Each year the American Red Cross responds to over 50,000 disasters. In Iroquois County we have been blessed by a low number of natural disasters, but when one does strike, our volunteers are ready and available to assist in this time on need and turmoil.
Planning and preparedness for disaster in Iroquois County are ongoing activities. Volunteers are trained in Red Cross standards. They participate in drills and exercises. We coordinate our efforts with government, business and community organizations within our county.
In the event of a disaster which exceeds the capacities of the county it strikes in, a network of experienced Red Cross volunteers from over 1,400 communities is called upon to assist. Our county has sent volunteers from here to assist in several National disasters. If you have interest in becoming a disaster volunteer, contact the local Red Cross office for details.
