G. Scott Pattison has been serving the Attica First United Methodist Church, his fifth appointment, since June of 2000. Born in Summitville, Indiana in 1962, he spent his childhood and teen years in a United Methodist Parsonage as his father pastored with the United Methodist Church.

Having felt the call on his life to full-time Christian service just prior to his junior year of high school, Scott began the ordination process in the United Methodist Church the following year.

Scott graduated from Huntington College in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and received his Master of Divinity from Anderson School of Theology in 1988. He was ordained a deacon in the United Methodist Church in 1987, and ordained as an elder in 1990.

Scott's personal mission is to share a practical, life-based understanding of God. To share, encourage and to challenge people to enter into and grow in their relationship with God through Christ.

the pastor's calling

I grew up in a Christian home. I knew about God and His love for all of humanity. There were various times of dedication and rededication starting around the fifth grade. At that time, I realized that I needed a Savior and could not "go it alone." I have grown in this understanding throughout my life.

The summer before my junior year in high school, I felt God's call upon my life at our church's senior high summer camp. At that time, I totally surrendered my all to God. The direction of that call was toward full-time Christian service. I started the ordination process in the United Methodist Church at the beginning of my senior year in high school. I attended various Christian liberal arts colleges and received a B.A. in Psychology. I attended Anderson University's School of Theology and received my Master of Divinity degree in 1988.

I have continued to grow in my understanding of God and how sin can hinder our relationships and growth. All people have something to offer, and I seek to be an active learner from all whom I encounter. I have also attended various denominational schools which have equipped me to talk about God at different levels and given me a greater understanding of how God may work within various settings. I realize that being in full-time Christian service is not a "free ticket" to heaven or salvation. I consider myself a Christian first, who happens to be a United Methodist Pastor, husband and father.

I am called...

  1. To equip the people of God to do the work of God, for building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12). This can be accomplished through...
    • Prayer and regular devotional time.
    • Develop an apprentice system where people are being trained to utilize their God given gifts and abilities.
    • Train and trust the right people who have a passion for their respective gifting.
    • Listen to people to understand the history and context of their lives.
    • Hold fast to the vision which I believe I have received from God.
  2. To share, encourage and to challenge people to enter into and grow in their relationship with God through Christ.
  3. To share a practical, life-based understanding of God.
  4. To be in relationship with people and their interests.
  5. To be in dialog with myself and others, whether I agree or not.
  6. To be the best Christian, husband and father {person} that I can be. To achieve this I need...
    • Prayer and regular devotional time.
    • Spend time with my family.
    • Balance of family, personal time and church work.
