Local Line, Local Line 2, and Carrollnet Windows XP setup

Stage 1 . The Internet Connection

1.)    Go to Start, Programs (All Programs), Accessories, Communications.

2.)    Click .New Connection Wizard.

3.)    Click .Next. at the window that tells you about the Internet Connection Wizard.

4.)    Mark .Connect to the Internet. Then click Next.

5.)    Mark .Set up my connection manually. Then click Next.

6.)    Mark .Connect using a dial up modem. Then click Next

7.)    For the .ISP Name. field, type in the appropriate ISP. (ex: Local Line)

8.)    For the .Phone Number. field, type in the appropriate dial in number (ex: 385-4300)   
Be sure that the number you choose is a local call for you.
Local Line is not responsible for any long distance charges accrued.

9.)    Click Next.

10.)Type in your username in the .Username. field. (ex: johnsmith@localline.com).

11.)Type in the password you chose in the .Password. and .Confirm Password. fields.

12.)Be sure that all of the checks below the .Username. and .Password. fields are marked.

13.)Click Next.

14.)Put a check in .Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.. Click Finish.

Your Internet connection is now set up.  To access the Internet, open Internet Explorer up from your Desktop or the Start Menu.

Stage 2 . The Email Client

We will walk you through the set up of Outlook Express, as it comes with Windows XP by default.

1.)    Go to Start, Email (Or Programs, Outlook Express)

2.)    A wizard should come up, if not, go to tools, accounts, mail, add, mail.

3.)    Type in your name where it says .Display Name. (ex: John Smith). Click Next.

4.)    Type in your email address. (ex: johnsmith@localline.com). Click Next.

5.)    Type in the Incoming Mail server.

6.)    Type in the Outgoing Mail server.

7.)    Click Next.

8.)    Type in the username and password. (ex: Username: johnsmith Password: 1#4$22rey)

9.)    Click Next.

10.) Click Finish.

Your email client is now setup.  See reverse side for vague usage instructions for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.

Internet Explorer:

To go to a website:

            Type in the URL in the address bar. (ex: http://www.localline.com)

To change your default homepage:

Go to tools, Internet Options. Set the homepage to .localline.com. (or a site of your choice), then click OK.

To set a bookmark:

            Click Favorites, then Add to Favorites.

Outlook Express:

To compose a new message:

            Click .Create Mail.

To add a new contact:

            Click .Contacts. then .New contact.

Dial up numbers:

Pick a number that is local for you to dial.
